Welcome to our 123rd new school year! Since 1899, Sacred Heart School, as a ministry of Sacred Heart Parish, has served the people of Hattiesburg and surrounding areas. Yesterday, someone said, "You are a private school, right?!" My answer, "No, we are a parochial school. This means we are a ministry of Sacred Heart Church and what we do is first and foremost for the Lord and an outreach of our Catholic faith." We are a school that prays, worships, and instills core values of faith, respect, and honor based on our belief in Jesus as Lord and Savior. It is because of this belief that we have been privileged to educate thousands of people who better their community and share their faith with others.
This is my 17th school year as pastor of Sacred Heart. When I arrived here in 2006 things were very different. We had no High School, no sports fields, and very little technology. Our buildings were in disrepair and challenges abounded. Over almost two decades, God, through his grace, our parents, faculty, staff, and the incredible energy and excellence of our students, has abundantly blessed Sacred Heart School. We have two campuses, one school. We have sport fields. We have victory after victory in many areas that testify to what God can do when we trust . We have the lowest debt since 2006. People continue to be generous and we minister to the whole community and love the diversity you can behold in our student body.
If I had any wish for us, it would be for all to be all to attend SHCS as the Sisters of Mercy intended. I trust God for that miracle and continue to thank him for the miracle that is Sacred Heart Catholic School.
Blessings, Fr. Ken
