Best in the Pine Belt 2022

Sacred Heart Catholic School was voted Best in the Pine Belt for the 5th consecutive year! Sacred Heart offers its students in Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade a solid foundation centered on faith and values with a focus on individual growth, academic excellence, and community service. Here are some highlights from the 2021-2022 school year:

  • PK4 program is superb! By the end of the year, SHS students can read, write and conquer beginning math skills. PK teacher, Lynette Villareal, won WDAM's Golden Apple Award in 2020.
  • Middle School is hard to beat. 5th & 6th graders feel a sense of pride as they are the oldest on the elementary campus. Students interreact with the entire grade and become mentors to the younger students.

  • Junior High provides a supportive environment for teenagers as they transition to high school. "Crusader Champions" is a special program where Juniors and Seniors mentor 7th and 8th graders throughout the year. Junior High STEM faculty, Michael Hogan, won WDAM's Golden Apple Award in 2021.

  • High School seniors attend and earn scholarships to colleges and universities across the United States (5 million for 2022, 4.4 million for 2021, and 4.3 million for 2020). The class of 2022 also signed five student athletes to the following colleges and universities: Millsaps College for Football, Pearl River Community College for Cheer, University of Southern Carolina for Women's Soccer, U.S. Naval Academic for Women's Tennis, and William Carey for Women's Golf.

Overall, SHS students consistently perform higher than national standards:

  • Students score a minimum of two years beyond grade level in all grades K-9 (overall average) on national achievement assessments. SHS 10th grader students scored 13+  which is the equivalent to first year of college and beyond.

  • 13% more students score 30 or higher on the ACT compared to national statistics.

  • The school produces numerous National Merit Scholarship Recipients. Since the high school opened in 2007, Sacred Heart has seen 18 recipients and 11 finalists. In 2022, SHS had a National Merit Finalist and National Merit Commended Scholar.
