·         Casey Phillips, senior at Sacred Heart Catholic High School, has been named one of 15,000 finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program out of 16,000 semifinalists chosen last September. These talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,300 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $34 million that will be offered in March. National Merit Scholarship Corporation, a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance, was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Congratulations Casey!

·         Juniors, Hilary Word and Lauren Scarborough will serve as Junior Pages this week in the State Senate this week. They have been chosen by state senator Percy Watson.

From Mrs Cindy Gallardo, I wanted to thank everyone for your help yesterday (Saturday, Feb. 11th). The breakfast was a huge success. I project it raised over $5000 for Coach Larry Mixon. Thanks to EVERYONE. I started to name names, but I would have to name everyone because we all contributed in one way or another. Especially thanks to everyone who got there at 6am! And even the 7am "ers". That was hard enough. I appreciate everyone who worked tirelessly! Thanks to all the Knights of Columbus, parents, and baseball team members who worked. It was a great team building experience for the boys! Many thanks to the Merchants Company who donated a portion of the food, Community Coffee, the Sacred Heart Dad’s Club, and Coca-Cola of Hattiesburg. There were those who sold tickets, made the Facebook page, and those who made signs and pictures! And thanks to those who donated money to the cause. I think the food turned out delicious too! So much went into this and I appreciate everyone for helping make this a success! This just proved what a wonderful school Sacred Heart is and how much we all love our coach.

The Senior Beta Club president, Ty Hughes, and vice-president, Kaylie Rowell, along with their sponsor, Mr. Rick Muli, present Mrs. Susan Stevens, Sacred Heart's Art Coordinator, with a check for $750 and a projector and computer to be used in the elementary art classroom. The money will be used for arts integration at both the high school and elementary school. At Sacred Heart the classroom teachers work in collaboration with the arts specialists to create lessons that are more meaningful and foster deeper level of learning through all art forms: music, dance, visual art, theater, and creative writing. If anyone is interested in supporting the arts integration program at the school, please contact Susan Stevens at 601-583-8683.
