We are so proud of our students and the success of the 2nd annual Sacred Heart Read-A-Thon “Reading Rocks!” During the two weeks, our children could have watched over 4004 hours of TV, but instead, they read over 240,258 minutes. The following students were the top 3 readers of the school with the most minutes recorded. Christian Nesser in 3rd, Sophia Ali in 2nd, and Savannah Wise in 1st. The Homeroom with the most minutes recorded was Mrs. Rempel’s 3rd grade class. Our top fundraisers of the school were Catherine Sullivan in 3rd, Klaire Bennett in 2nd, and a tie for 1st place included: Ella Leek, Amaze Ekunwe and Anne Moore York. The homeroom with the most fundraising dollars collected was Mrs. Brannon’s kindergarten class. Thank you to all of the students and parents who participated. USM Dance Troop Visits Sacred Heart
The Young People's Matinee ('YPM') is a concert produced annually by the USM dance program. It is produced on the Hattiesburg campus and is also toured throughout the state and beyond (this year tours happen at Oak Grove Primary, Sacred Heart Elementary, and five public schools in Mobile, Alabama). The YPM is designed specifically for the K-12 student and features excerpts from Southern Miss faculty and student dances. The concert also advocates the importance of self-expression through the arts and specifically the benefits of movement in the classroom and in life in general. This year's theme is 'Collaboration and Communication.' The many applications and interpretations of this are explored through skits, performances, student participation activities, and interactive presentations. The concert is performed by twenty Repertory Dance Company members. Students studying dance at Southern Miss write, organize, rehearse and produce this concert under the direction of Julie White, the Dance Education and Licensure Coordinator for the program. Master classes that are written and instructed in support of this concert are also frequently taught to give a more direct experience with the material being presented in the show.

High School Students View the Aids Memorial Quilt
The AIDS Services Coalition of Hattiesburg hosted a portion of the Aids Memorial Quilt at Trinity Episcopal Church after Thanksgiving. Sacred Heart 11th and 12th grade students had an opportunity to view the quilt and learn more about its significance and the disease itself. Founded in 1987, The AIDS Memorial Quilt is a poignant memorial, a powerful tool for use in preventing new HIV infections, and the largest ongoing community arts project in the world. Each 'block' (or section) of The AIDS Memorial Quilt measures approximately twelve feet square, and a typical block consists of eight individual three foot by six foot panels sewn together. Virtually every one of the more than 40,000 colorful panels that make up the Quilt memorializes the life of a person lost to AIDS. As the epidemic continues claiming lives around the world and here in the United States, the Quilt continues to grow and to reach more communities with its messages of remembrance, awareness and hope.
