Sacred Heart Catholic School is a comprehensive, co-educational, college-preparatory school founded in 1900 by Father Sylvester Greimel and the Sisters of Mercy. With an average annual enrollment of more than 750 students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, Sacred Heart is located on two campuses in historic downtown Hattiesburg, Mississippi. As a ministry of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart offers its students a solid foundation centered on faith and values with a focus on individual growth, academic excellence, and community service.
As the largest school in the Diocese of Biloxi, Sacred Heart Catholic School is dedicated to providing its students with a college- and career-ready curriculum, encouraging excellence in all subject areas within a nurturing atmosphere. Sacred Heart’s average ACT score consistently exceeds state and national averages, and graduating classes receive record scholarship offers each year. The Class of 2020, with 41 students, garnered over $4.3 million in scholarships. Graduates of Sacred Heart attend prestigious colleges and universities throughout the United States including Duke University, The University of Virginia, and Vanderbilt University.
In addition to strong academics, Sacred Heart integrates visual arts, dance, theatre, music, and forensics throughout its curriculum. Students regularly conduct performances and exhibits and compete nationally in speech and debate. In February 2020, Sacred Heart’s Mock Trial Team won the Mississippi High School Mock Trial Competition for the eighth consecutive year.
Sacred Heart excels in athletics as well, holding 21 Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) State Championship titles – two in 1A Powerlifting, seven in 1A/2A Tennis, one in 1A Golf, four in 1A/2A/3A Boys’ Soccer, and seven in 1A/2A/3A Girls’ Soccer. In addition, our school holds individual player championships in cross-country, golf, powerlifting, swim, tennis, and track. Sacred Heart’s state-of-the-art 20-acre athletic complex, completed in 2016, features a football and soccer stadium, baseball field, softball field, and practice fields.
Founded upon the Catholic faith, Sacred Heart Catholic School cultivates a strong faith in God. Students participate in grade-level retreats, religious education, sacramental preparation and bi-weekly Masses. The student body is diverse, representing various racial, ethnic, economic and religious groups. With students from all areas of South Mississippi, Sacred Heart is proud to represent the Diocese of Biloxi as the only Catholic school in the Pine Belt Area.
